Psalm 5 - Saved By Grace
Psalm 5
5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong. 7 But I, by your great love, can come into your house.
What is the hardest biblical teaching to believe? I don’t think it’s creation in 6 days. It’s not Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. I don’t even think it’s Scripture’s stance on today’s moral issues. Hear me out: It’s the Bible’s teaching on “Sin.”
The Bible says that every single person is a sinner (Romans 3:23). Even the best person you know cannot please God on their own. Their good actions are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6, Hebrews 11:6). Even the smallest bit of anger in our hearts equals murder in God’s eyes (Matthew 5:22). Children and infants don’t escape! They can die; therefore they sin (Romans 6:23). Sin starts the moment of conception (Psalm 51:5). There is no spark of faith or goodness in our hearts (Gen. 6:5). We can’t even come to faith unless the Spirit gives that to us (1 Cor. 12:3).
When I read Psalm 5, my heart despairs. “You (Lord) hate all who do wrong.” I do wrong. God hates me. How can we possibly stand in God’s presence?
Answer: “But I, by your great love, can come into your house.” By grace, God’s undeserved love for us, God sent his son. Jesus’ blood washes away our sin. Jesus’ perfect life makes us holy in God’s sight. Psalm 5 says this: We are sinners, saved by grace.
