Theology 1: Everyone Has A Religion
Everyone Has A Religion
Acts 17:22-23, “Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god.”
Everyone has a religion. Yup, that’s just a fact. We all have opinions on spiritual matters, on the ‘supernatural.’ We all value things that can’t be studied with precision: love, hope, joy, purpose. What makes us human can’t be bottled up in a test tube
Even an ardent atheist doesn’t actually live like an atheist. We value what can’t be seen. We want purpose and love. We know there is something more. What is that exactly? Boy, there sure are a lot of options!
Here’s what God says in the Scriptures: 1) Life has meaning. There is one almighty God, who created and controls all things. He made humankind the crown of his creation. 2) There is something wrong. Sin, suffering, and death entered this world through humankind’s sin. 3) You are loved. This God loves you so much he sent his only Son Jesus to save us. Jesus stepped into time and space, became a human, took our sin on him, died in our place, rose, destroyed death itself, and promises you eternal life.
There’s more to say. Christianity gives the most beautiful answer for meaning in this world. Check it out.
