Theology 5: For Us And For Our Salvation
For Us And For Our Salvation
John 1:14, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
Mike Rowe’s “Dirty Jobs” showed us just how dirty jobs can be. Some people get muddier in an hour than I will get in a whole year! They just roll up their sleeves, dive into their messy, muddy jobs, and get their hands dirty.
This is what Jesus did for us. He got his hands dirty, so to speak. The almighty Son of God stepped into time and space. The author wrote himself in. The ruler of all thrones took on frail flesh and blood. Jesus was born, the LORD as a helpless babe, true God and true man.
Why? For us and for our salvation, we confess in the Nicene Creed. Written 1700 years ago, that truth stands today. Jesus as man could live in our place, face every temptation, shed his blood, and die. Jesus as God means that his blood blots out every sin, his death counts for all people, and his perfect life is given to all those who believe. Jesus got his hands dirty on a rescue mission for all people and all creation.
Jesus is the Word of God. Jesus is what God wants us to see. The entire 66 books of God’s inspired, inerrant Word sum up and point to the person and work of Jesus Christ. In him alone is our salvation. Let us rest on the rock of forgiveness, truth, and life.
