Theology 18: What is Jesus all about?
What is Jesus all about?
John 12:23, 24, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”
A farmer buries a single wheat kernel in the ground. To our eyes that kernel has died, forgotten in the ground. But time passes. Rain falls. The sun shines. And that single kernel produces food in abundance.
What does a wheat kernel have to do with God? It helps us see what Jesus is all about!
Jesus died on the cross for our sin. He was buried in the ground. To our eyes Jesus was gone, a footnote in history. But three days passed. He broke the tomb door. He conquered death. What does that mean for us? Forgiveness of sins. Eternal life. Countless believers in Jesus. Fruit in abundance.
The dying seed. The death and resurrection of Jesus. This is the message that brings glory to God.
You see, Christianity is not about how good we are or what we’ve done. It’s really not about us at all. It’s about Jesus, about his suffering, his death, his resurrection. It’s about how he saved us. Let’s glorify Jesus, day after day, by meditating and standing on the death and resurrection that brought us salvation.
