Let God Speak #9: It’s All About Forgiveness

Philippians 1:13-14, “For (God) has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

If you could re-make society, what would you place at the “heart”? What would the foundation be? Perhaps one might choose justice. If justice reigns, then peace and prosperity follow. Or maybe another picks duty. Duty leads everyone to work for something bigger than themselves. Individuality is an option, the freedom for people to make their own choices. I’m sure people could debate this for hours or contend for other concepts.

A Christian’s life centers on forgiveness. This isn’t a vague love or a partial forgiveness. This is a forgiveness built around a story. Jesus entered a world of sinners… of whom I am the worst. He suffered and died for failures. He rose so that his enemies might have eternal life. He makes hearts alive with forgiveness. By nature, we are dead in our sin and enemies of God. But Jesus forgives us.

Do you see the power in this kind of life? A Christian responds to hate with love. She is compassionate instead of selfish. He serves others instead of himself. A Christian can name a sin but still show compassion and kindness.

It’s all about forgiveness. Those who have been forgiven in Christ, who dwell in his kingdom, now build their lives around forgiveness.
