Let God Speak #12: Forgiven Much, Thankful Much

Luke 21:47, “Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

Forgiven Much, Thankful Much

It’s Thanksgiving! Turkey, delicious food, family time, shopping deals. What a good time! During Thanksgiving, however, it’s hard to be thankful. It’s easy to post a hashtag on social media and write about something you’re thankful for. Soon enough, though, we find ourselves ignoring those very same things. What’s the secret? How can we be better at thanksgiving? We could keep a Gratitude Journal, take 5 minutes every morning to say “thanks” to the universe, or spend quality, intentional time with loved ones. And those are all great ideas! But do you want to know the best secret?

Forgiveness.

Too easily we forget our rotten hearts. Pride, anger, and bitterness fill even our best days. On our own, we deserve hell. But we’re not on our own. Jesus died in our place. His blood takes away ever single sin. For how great the mountain of our sin stands, Jesus’s forgiveness stands higher and destroys that mountain of sin. We have been forgiven much.

In view of such great forgiveness, we are thankful much. Thankful for a God of such forgiveness and grace. Thankful, too, for all the other blessings he rains upon us. We sure do have a lot to be thankful for!
