Theology 20: A New Reality

A New Reality

Mark 16:6, “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.”

Pictures. Memories. Gravestones. These are all that is left of those who have died, aside from the pain and loss. Someday we too will die. It does not matter how strong or rich we are. Death always wins. Sometimes we forget the pain and fear. Other times they attack with ferocity. That is our reality.

That reality changed on Easter morning. Jesus, the man from Nazarene, was crucified on a cross. He was buried. Then a few women went to his tomb. What did they find? An empty tomb. An angel who announced, “He is not here! He is risen! See the place where they laid him.” Jesus the Son of God died on the cross. But he rose. He gave us a new reality.

This is the Easter message. This is the center of Christianity. This is our new reality: He has risen. Jesus physically rose from the dead on Easter. Through faith in Jesus, we too will rise. Death has been turned into victory.

This promise is not just for me. It’s for you. It’s for all who call on Jesus as their Savior and God. Death does not have the last word. Fear and pain do not have to rule. A new reality exists in Jesus. He has risen, he has risen indeed!
