Let God Speak #41: Your Favorite Pastor
1 Corinthians 4:1, “This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed.”
Your Favorite Pastor?
An elephant in the room for many Christians: Who is your favorite pastor? I’m sure we all have one for different reasons. Pastors… are personable, preach relatable sermons, teach on interesting subjects, encourage when life gets rough, and give a whole host of other blessings. Some pastors are gifted in certain areas more than others. Preferences develop naturally along these lines.
The church in Corinth during Paul’s day splintered into factions based on which pastor they liked. You can read more about this in 1 Corinthians 1-4. Paul had some heavy words for the Corinthians. Christians do not pick churches, follow pastors, or divide into groups based solely on preference. “This, then, is how you ought to regard us (pastors, church leaders, etc.): servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries.” In other words, regard pastors as those entrusted with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Does your church teach that Christ was crucified and physically rose on the third for you? Does your pastor preach the full and free forgiveness of our sins through Jesus’ blood? Do you hear the sure and certain promise of the physical resurrection of our bodies on the last day? Does your church proclaim salvation through Jesus as a gift, freely given? Yes? Blessings. No? The apostle Paul has some words for you.
