Let God Speak #39: It Will Be Very Good
Genesis 1:31, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day
It Will Be Very Good
“It was very good.” This refrain echoes in God’s creation account. God made a paradise. Order and prosperity ruled. The earth lavished food. Life flourished without worry. Humankind managed all this for God’s glory and for our delight. What happened?
Adam and Eve brought sin into this world. That sin comes down, parent to child, and rests in our hearts. Our sin messes everything up. If I apply my logic to humankind’s position here on earth, it’s not great. Hunger gnaws at stomachs. Anxiety weighs down hearts. War cuts down innocents. Hate flows everywhere. Even wealthy, happy people are just one car accident or cancer diagnosis away from disaster. Paradise lost. It “was” very good.
Has paradise been lost forever? Not at all.
Jesus came to bring us back into God’s paradise right now. In him we find forgiveness of sins. In him we become children of God. In him we receive our inheritance. Truly we can say, right now, “It is very good.”
What is that inheritance? The resurrection of the body. Paradise. God will raise us on the last day, just as he raised Jesus, and we will dwell forever in a renewed earth. This second paradise will be even more glorious than the first paradise. There it will be very good.
