Let God Speak #43: True Wealth
Matthew 13:44, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”
True Wealth
A pirate sails up the Mississippi. He buries his treasure in a secluded meadow. But justice catches him before he returns. 350 years later, who happens upon this treasure? You, dear reader! A treasure chest of gold. Ornate jewelry. Precious gems. What do you do? Steal it in the night? You’re not a pirate! A sensible man tries to buy the field. What price is too much? Most of us would sell everything, down to our last spare set of socks. It’s worth more than all we own!
How much more worth does Jesus have? His precious blood, more valuable than gold or silver, covers our sin. His resurrection from the dead means that we too will rise and live forever. Our inheritance through Jesus is eternal life in paradise.
Here are a few lyrics from Keith & Kristyn Getty’s song, “My Worth Is Not In What I Own.” I urge you to listen to it all yourselves: :My worth is not in what I own, Not in the strength of flesh and bone, But in the costly wounds of love, At the cross. My worth is not in skill or name, In win or lose, in pride or shame, But in the blood of Christ that flowed, At the cross.”
