Psalm 3 - A Shield Around Me
Psalm 3:1-3, LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” But you, LORD, are a shield around me.
List in your head the number of problems you have. Can you do it? They might relate to work, family, health, or private life. I for one have no problem making it to 10!
Hold up. Aren’t Christians blessed by their LORD? Aren’t they God’s children? How can such a powerful entity let his children have so many problems? He must not be God. He must not love his children.
“But you, LORD, are a shield around me.” God works, but not in the way we want or imagine. He wouldn’t be much of a God, then. Here are God’s promises:
Romans 8:28 - God promises to work all things in this world for our eternal good, no matter how bad or terrible.
Romans 5:3-5 – God gives meaning to suffering and he builds our hope in eternal life.
Matthew 6:25-34 – God promises to give us exactly what we “need” to live.
Philippians 4:13 – We can find contentment and happiness in any circumstance of life.
1 John 1:7 – Jesus’ blood forgives us from every sin, no matter what guilt or shame weighs on our hearts.
John 20:31 – Jesus gives us eternal life through our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The book of Psalms gives promise after promise, unique and beautiful, that God is our shield.
