Theology 14: The Only Way

The Only Way

John 14:6, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

I was a stubborn millennial, so I still have memories of what travel was like before I bought my smartphone in 2012: printing off maps from google, making notes with pens, and being utterly lost when I missed my exit. I also remember road trips as a kid. My parents ‘disagreed’ on which highway was quicker as the map was spread across the dashboard.

It’s easier now, isn’t it? Someone starts telling me directions, and I just say, “What’s the address? I’ll plug it into google.”

It’d be nice if everything was that easy, right? What job do I take? Where should I live? Which decision is best? How can I be happy?

Thankfully, in the most important area of life, the map is easy. Jesus. The Way. How do we have eternal life? How are our sins forgiven? How can we stand before the Father as perfect? Only through faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

And that gives you peace. There are so many wonderful places to live, people to know, jobs to do. You don’t need to prove yourself. You don’t need to compete. In Jesus, you have everything: forgiveness, life, and salvation. In Jesus, you are free to live for God’s glory and to serve your neighbor in whatever you do.
