Let God Speak #1: Aren’t Fairy Tales For Kids?

LOTR: The Rings of Power. House of the Dragon. Stranger Things. I’d guess that you recognize these… or at least you’ve heard of them. Since "The Lord of the Rings" movies debuted in 2001, the popularity of fantasy has sky-rocketed! People love to hear about magic and make-believe, dragons and danger, elves and adventure. Fairy tales. Why do adults suddenly love them?

They offer an escape - something adults almost need more than kids! An escape from long hours, hectic schedules, and stress. An escape from this world where plague, death, and dread hang over our heads. An escape into something else… somewhere else. Another world. A world where the good guys have a chance, where there’s a good ending. Hope. A world that makes us believe, even just a little, that there might be something else.

“Well now,” a critic says, “that’s just escapism, a distraction. Better to roll up your sleeves, tie your boots, ignore stories for kids, and face reality head on.” Fine. Fairy tales are fake. There are no dragons, no elves, no magic. You can believe that there is nothing else besides what we see in this world.

But can you have hope, then? Hope that isn’t shattered by death? Hope that isn’t stolen by every setback? Hope that gives you purpose and joy?

Maybe, just maybe, there is something else beyond this world. A story. A hero. A happy ending. Hope. Step into this fairy tale. See the joy that waits.
