Let God Speak #6: I Am Perfect

Colossians 1:22, “But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.”

“I am perfect.” No one in their right mind would say this. If they do, you know they’re lying. Everyone sins. That’s obvious. We might try to act perfect sometimes. But if you asked a stranger point-blank, “Are you perfect?”, they would probably respond, “Of course not!”

God demands that we be perfect. Do you see any problems? Jesus himself says, “Be perfect, as your heavenly father is perfect.” What?! How are we supposed to do that? It’s impossible!

I can confidently tell you that I am perfect… but not in the way you might think. I am full of sin. I do, say, and think contrary to God’s laws every day. On my own, I am the opposite of perfect. Now, look at the passage above. Did you read it? I am perfect by Christ’s physical body. He shed blood to cover my sins. He died the death I deserved. He gives his perfect life to me. Through faith in what Jesus did for me here on earth, God looks at me and sees Christ.

I stand before God as perfect, holy, without blemish, and free from accusation. I stand before God clothed in the blood and perfection of Jesus. Only in Christ can this confidence and blessing be found. Trust in him alone.
