Let God Speak #7: Why Am I Here?

Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

“Why am I here? What is my purpose?” We all need one. A purpose gives direction and a reason for existing. People search, often unknowingly, for a purpose: to be a loving parent, a successful worker, an upstanding citizen, etc. Some people find their purpose and so find fulfillment. Others don’t. Which are you? Have you found a purpose? Or are you drifting?

“For we are God’s handiwork.” We are not alone. We are not abandoned. God loved us so dearly that he sent his Son to die for our sins and save us from death and hell. This God wants nothing more than to create life in us, so that our hearts pulse with the love and mercy of God.

“Created in Christ Jesus to do good works.” We aren’t adrift. We have a “why.” God creates life in our hearts for a reason. God has put us on this planet to love. Our purpose, with the life of Jesus in our hearts, is to love. Whom? All people. Even those we don’t agree with. In the light of grace and mercy, our hearts bear the fruits of love and compassion. God loves you. His Son saves us from death and hell. Our purpose is to reflect that love to others.
