Let God Speak #27: Water For A Thirsty Soul
John 4:14, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring welling up to eternal life.”
Water for the Thirsty Soul
We’ve all been there. A hot, summer day. You’re moving, nonstop. Cleaning the house. Yard work. Running errands. Playing outside. Chores for the parents. You pause for a break. Pour some water. Take a deep drink. Aaah... Relief wells up inside you. Maybe you audibly sigh. Could there be anything sweeter? Strength and life flow and reenergize you. It’s hard to put this into words, but you know what I’m talking about: drinking a cup of cold water on a hot day.
This is a picture of the water of life that Jesus gives. This water doesn’t last just for a sip or only a single afternoon. This water gives a rest and peace that lasts forever. Jesus forgives our sin. Jesus promises eternal life in paradise. Jesus spreads a peace and a rest to our hearts that nothing else in this world can offer.
Do you want peace? Do you want rest? Do you want a satisfaction to all your doubts, worries, and fears? Drink Jesus. Believe in him. Know the life we all have in him. When this water wells up in our hearts, it can’t help but overflow to those around us. There is no better source for love and compassion than Jesus, the spring of living water.
