Let God Speak #28: A Light In The Dark
John 9:1-5, “As Jesus went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
A Light In The Dark
The disciples thought God worked like karma. If we do good, God will reward us. If we do bad, God will punish us. Naturally, this blind man ‘must’ have deserved his suffering! But that’s not how life works, is it? You’ve seen it, maybe you’ve experienced it. We act good, we try our best, but trouble comes. Then our hearts cry out, “Why? Why, God, have you sent this ________ into my life?” (insert: cancer, death, sickness, etc.) Darkness covers us as anguish and doubt grip our soul.
In this dark, a light shines. Jesus. It doesn’t matter if we have no faith or have believed our whole life, whether God blesses our life or sends tragedy. One of God’s major purposes in all situations is this: to bring us into the light of Jesus, that we might believe the forgiveness and life that Jesus freely gives to us. This life only lasts so long. The life Jesus promises lasts for an eternity: a warm, summer sun that shines for days without end.
