Let God Speak #29: Death Is Destroyed
John 11:25-26, “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
Death Is Destroyed
There is no more brutal reality than death. It snuffs out children, steals loved ones, and tears into hearts. We apply cliches and sentiments like Band-Aids over a lost limb. “They live on in our hearts.” “Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them.” That’s not much help when you walk through a graveyard. You’ll never hug them again. The wages of sin is death.
Did you notice what Jesus said? He talks about death in two ways: If you believe in him and die, you’ll still live. If you live and believe in Jesus, who forgives our sins, you’ll never die. Once sin is gone, death is gone. For a Christian, a forgiven child of God, death does not exist. It’s gone. Done away with. Destroyed. We fall asleep and wake up in paradise.
Do you know what this means? Once Jesus returns and reunites body and soul, we will see our loved ones who live in Jesus. And not just see! Hug. Hold. Kiss. We’ll squeeze them in a hug. Hear them laugh. Make more memories. This is the free gift of Jesus Christ.
Do you believe this?
