Let God Speak #32: Why Jesus?
John 20:29, 31, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
Why Jesus?
Christians are pretty silly, to be honest. We believe in one, all-powerful God who created all things. We believe this God demands perfection. Don’t misunderstand me. Other religions teach that being good is enough. The God of Christianity demands absolute perfection. We, of course, fail. What does God do? He becomes a human being, actually dies for us, then physically rises from the grave.
Wow, surely such a display would convince the world!? But then Jesus disappeared. Now, he refuses to show himself and give evidence. And we say just… believe? Why should you believe in Jesus?
Jesus doesn’t try to convince us with cold, hard facts or evidence. (The facts behind Christianity are certainly compelling, however. More about that at a different time!) Jesus speaks to our hearts. He invites us with good news. What he offers changes everything. What is that?
Life. There is more to this world than money and things. God has a purpose. Jesus destroyed death. Now, we stand before God as perfect through Jesus. This world will be renewed as good and healthy. We will live under a warm sun forever.
But only through Jesus. Believe in his name!
