Let God Speak #34: Green Pastures

John 10:9-10, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

“Why should I follow Christ?” Perhaps you’ve asked yourself this question, or maybe you’ve heard it. Why? If the “why” can’t be answered, many will walk away from Christ. Blame for this rests primarily on the church itself, not on ‘culture.’ Too often Christians focus only on morality. They teach, “Do this, don’t do that.”  If ‘being a good person’ is our aim, well, Christianity isn’t that unique. 

“Why should I follow Christ?” Easy. Jesus, and Jesus alone, brings us to green pastures. Only his way leads to salvation. Green pastures give life, food, rest, and paradise to sheep. Jesus gives life and salvation to his sheep. He removed our sin on the cross. He destroyed death on Easter Sunday. By faith, God sees us as perfect, holy sheep through the blood of Jesus. Through his Word, God strengthens our faith in Jesus.

Woah, that changes things. “Why should I follow Christ?” He is the only way to green pastures. There you will find rest for your souls.
