Let God Speak #4: A Kingdom Of Zeroes

1 Corinthians 1:27-28, “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are.”

Do you compare yourself with others? Maybe we’d never admit it out loud, but we notice those things, right? He has a bigger house… she has a better job… his social media posts seem so fun… my kids are better behaved than hers… It’s a natural tendency of humankind, I think, to compare.

The problem is that we always come up short. We only see the veneer of other people’s lives, the masks they put on. Never the pains and problems beneath. But our own? We know too well our own sins and shortcomings. So, we spend much of life trying to cover up, to prove that we are good enough, worthy enough, to be a human being on this planet.

Let go. It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to fail, to hurt, to cry. God’s kingdom is filled with fools and weaklings, lowly and despised people. A kingdom of zeros. Jesus comes to the broken, the zeros, and brings them into his kingdom. You don’t need to prove yourself, to compare, to tear others down. In the kingdom of zeros, in Jesus, you have forgiveness, life, and hope.
