Let God Speak #3: Ruled By Love
2 Corinthians 5:14-15 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
We are all ruled by something, whether we want to admit it or not. People, objects, or ideals sit in thrones on our hearts and govern our life. If you want absolute freedom, you better live off the grid in a solitary house by yourself in the middle of nowhere. There you will be free of people, problems, joy, peace… You will be free, at least, until death comes knocking. I suppose no one is truly free.
What will YOU be ruled by? A desire to prove yourself? Fear of the future? Living your best life? I don’t have time to write about the pros and cons of all these possibilities. But try this on for size: A Christian is ruled by love.
Ruled by love. A Christian knows the sin that stares back in the mirror, the brokenness of their own self. But they also believe in the innocent lamb who shed his blood to pay for our sin. The Son of God who suffered the punishment we deserved. What love! What compassion!
Put others first. Sacrifice our comfort to build others up. Help the poor, needy, & oppressed. Why? Christ’s love compels us. Our hearts are ruled by that love.
