Weekly Devotion: To Whom Shall We Go?
To Whom Shall We Go?
John 6:68, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
A recent Barna study in ’23, titled “Openness to Jesus Isn’t the Problem—the Church Is”, reports that many people in America actually have a positive perception of Jesus. That positivity wanes once “the Church” is brought up. People have a little (lot?) less respect for followers of Christ. This is especially true of people who aren’t Christians. Do the words ‘judgmental’ and ‘hypocritical’ sound familiar?
I don’t have enough time to discuss this idea in depth, but one question comes to my mind: Who is the real Jesus?
Some Christians DO seem to miss the compassion, mercy, and justice that Jesus brings. Others turn to politics as a false Messiah. People forget about the Truth Jesus brings. But my question still stands. Who is the real Jesus?
Listen to him in John 6, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
This transcends politics and opinions. Nothing is more important.
Or course, those who believe this Word overflow with compassion, mercy, and justice, no matter what their person, petty opinions might be. How could they not?
To whom shall we go? Jesus has the words of eternal life.
