Let God Speak #19: With You I Am Well-pleased

Matthew 3:17, “And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

With You I Am Well-Pleased

It feels good to be accepted, doesn’t it? To have close friends & family, friendly co-workers. Even an occasional compliment can brighten our whole day! God showers his Son, Jesus, with praise in our verse above. Why? Why does God delight in his Son? Why is he well-pleased?

It’s simple. Jesus came to be our Savior. His blood takes away our sin. His holiness is transferred to us. We have life and hope in his name. Nothing could please God more, nothing could delight him more, than to send his Son to be our Savior.

Through Jesus, when God sees you, he now says, “You are my son, my daughter. With you I am well-pleased.” It seems odd, crazy, even. How is God able to say that to us? Because of Jesus. Through faith in Jesus, our sins are gone. The holiness of Jesus covers us like a new coat. God delights in us, but not through our own effort or work. All this happens entirely because of God’s grace (which is nothing more than God’s undeserved love), and because of Jesus’ perfect life and death. What grace and joy is this, to be accepted, loved, and delighted in by God himself? All glory and thanks be to Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
