Let God Speak #20: The Foolishness Of God

1 Corinthians 1:27-28, “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are.

The Foolishness of God

What is wisdom according to the “world”? It is something that makes sense to us! Work hard in your job. Take care of your possessions. Invest for your retirement. Balance your work and family. Trust in the politician who will get things done. Influence others to make the decisions you want. Study from many sources to build your knowledge and wisdom. Improve yourself in body and mind. If you do all these things consistently, you will probably end up with a fair share of wisdom, wealth, and happiness. Probably.

Until the stock market takes away your savings. A bad economy ends your job. Cancer wracks your body. An accident steals a loved one. Trust in the “things” of this world will bring you momentary happiness, but nothing lasts forever. What can?

The foolishness of God. A helpless baby, born as our Savior. A dying man, sent to take away our sin. An empty tomb, victory over death. A foolishness that’s wiser than anything in this world. Jesus Christ: our peace, joy, and hope.
