Let God Speak #24: The Power Of Perspective

Matthew 6:25, 33, “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

The Power Of Perspective

Teenagers have so many problems: grades, friends, dating, college, and jobs, just to name a few. These are serious and deserve our attention and help. However, looking back, my own problems in high school weren’t that bad. I wouldn’t mind if my parents took care of the bills, food, car payments, and all my “grow-up” problems! What problems do I have now that won’t seem so bad in 20 years? Perspective can be powerful.

However, perspective can’t fix some problems. Why did countless millions have to die in the two World Wars? Why did that earthquake in Turkey end the life of thousands? Why do so many children suffer from abuse and hunger? Sometimes we don’t beat cancer. Age slowly and surely saps our strength. Time dulls the pain, but nothing takes it away.

Jesus gives us a perspective that silences any “why” and paints the most beautiful picture imaginable. Through faith in Jesus, paradise waits for us. We have eternal life. We will find no tears, pain, suffering, or death in heaven. This perspective not only carries us through any suffering; it gives us joy despite our suffering. Amen.
